Difference between broadcast and point to point more of communication
Answers
Broadcast links is in contrast a communication channel that is shared by all the machines in the network. The difference between point-to-point and broadcast, is that in broadcast networks, the packets(/the message) is sent by any machine and received by all the other machines.
Broadcast
A method of sending a signal where multiple parties may hear a single sender. Radio stations are a good example of every day life "Broadcast Network". In this case the radio station is a sender of information/signal and data is only expected to flow in one direction only . ie. away from the radio broadcast tower.
Another lively example comes from LH 403 of Amritsar College of engineering and technology. In this room, Lecturer starts delivering some information. Some Students may be sleeping, and not hear the teacher. Some Students may be awake, but mentally some where else, so they are able to hear the person speaking, but choose to ignore the words that are being said. Another group of people ( people like me fall under this category) may not only be awake, but be interested in what is being taught . This last group is not only able to hear the person speaking, but are also listening to what is being said.
In this example, you can see a single point is broadasting a message to multiple locations that may or may not be able to hear it, and if they are able to hear it, may choose to listen or not.
Point to point Network
In networking, the Point-to-Point is a data networking commonly used to establish a direct connection between two networking nodes.
It can provide connection :
1)Direct Connection
2)Authentication
3)Transmission encryption privacy.
This is a sort of Networking where one “Computer" (or entity) speaks to another entity.
A romantic example of Point to point Communication is a couple laying on a couch watching a movie holding hands under a blanket.(Direct Connection). This couple has their own code in holding hands for speaking to each other that include 3 squeezes maps to "I Love You" (one for each syllable) and 4 squeezes of the hand maps to "I Love You Too" (Transmission encryption privacy). The Girlfriend squeezes her Boyfriend's hand 3 times. He gets this message, and smiles (acknowledgment of the message) and then returns a new message of 4 squeezes. She smiles (acknowledging her receipt of the message she felt.)
This conversation takes place only between these two people. Here we see point-to-point Network.
Answer:
In point to point, the information is sent from a sender to a specific receiver i.e., from one point to the other point. While in broadcast, the information is broadcasted to all the receivers simultaneously.
An example of point to point could be telephone call in which one telephone is connected with one other, and what is said by one caller can only be heard by the other and of an broadcast could be radio or television in which when a program is transmitted, it can be received by all the receivers.
