Election is generally held after the general term whereas mid term election is held when any house has to dissolve due to unexpected reasons (like as a result of no confidence motion).

Election is done when the term of the ruling party is over. mid term election is done when for any reason when the ruling party is forced to quit due to the a vote passed by the Loksabha . Mid term is also conducted when Person dies or is impeached .
