cation -

1) positive charge

2) formed by the loss of electron from neutral atom

anions-

1)negative charge

2) formed by the gain of extra electrons in a neutral atom.

Cation- Positively charged atom or group of atoms that loose electrons. Attracted towards Negative Anode.

Anion- Negatively charged atom or group of atoms that gain electrons. Attracted towards Positive Anode.
