The main difference between census and sample method is that in census method all the members of the population are enumerated while in sampling method just a few members of the population are chosen to represent the whole.
Census Method
- All the units in the population are included in the study
- It is time consuming to involve all the members of the population
- It is expensive to carry out
- Is used in both heterogenous and homogeneous populations
- The results are quite reliable
Sampling method
- Only a small unit of the population is used to represent the whole population
- The sampling method is not as time consuming as the census method
- It is cheaper to do
- Sampling method can only be used when the population is somewhat homogenous
- The results are not as reliable
