Choropleth method of mapping uses prearranged keys, colours and shades to describe a range of values for areas.


For example: Population Density Information in ‘per km^2’  is correctly depicted using choropleth map. Other examples where choropleth map can be used are – to understand the differences in land use, to illustrate the type of forest cover.


Isopleths method uses simple data with a sustained distribution. There are two types of isopleths mapping. They are


Lines of equal value are used where higher values are on one side of the ‘isoline’ and lower values are on the other side.


Range of similar values are grouped under similar colours or patterns.
