- Notochord present .
- Central nervous system is dorsal , hollow and single.
- Heart is ventral.
- A post - anal tail is present .
- Pharynx perforated by gill slits .
NON - CHORDATES :-
- Notochord absent .
- Central nervous system is ventral, solid and double.
- Heart is dorsal (if present) .
- Post - anal tail is absent .
- Gill slits are absent .
