Cloning is a type of asexual reproduction which involves the creation of an exact copy of a biological entity. Cloning involves the process of forming a cell or a complete individual from a body cell. A clone is created by inserting the complete genetic material of a regular body cell from a donor into a recipient. Cloning is done in many animals including sheep, cattle, pigs etc. But for the first time cloning of sheep was successful in producing a clone of the parent sheep. Cloning can also be done in plants by the process which involves stem cuttings.Micropropagation is a method of tissue culture which involves production large number of plantlets in a small period. This technique involves extraction of a small piece of plant tissue (donor) and used as an explant. This is cultured on a sterile nutrient medium. The cultured material is separated into several parts and each plant is allowed to develop into a new plantlet. Offspring produced by this method of micropropagation are identical as they are developed from a single parent material. Micropropagation is mostly done in plants.
