The difference between coal, petroleum and natural gas are:

- Coal is a hard solid which provides energy on burning.

- It is used to generate electricity in thermal power plants.

- Petroleum (or crude oil) is the main source of energy in today's world.

- It is a liquid from which we obtain various fuels.

- Natural gas is found just above the petroleum.

- Many vehicles are run today on CNG.

- Although all the 3 are fossil fuels, they are still very different in terms of formation, physical state and use.
