Difference between coffer slab and grid slab

When panel size is very large , solid slab will be a costly affair especially due to
fact that concrete below NA is cracked and being un-utilised .Hence emerged the
concept of Grid /Coffered slab wherein it can be visualized by removing
the conc below NA from a very thick solid slab and putting the same in
form of ribs closely spaced.
Grid slab is thus , a series of thin beams closely placed in both directions of panel
with a thin topping.
This is economical from considerations of steel consumption (to some extent conc
consumption too) when copared with solid slab , though form-work will be costly
but overall it will be eco.
hope it helps you.
