Basic difference: A lawyer is the member of Bar Council of India whereas a CS is a member of the ICSI.A CS having law degree too can not practice both as lawyer and CS and same applies to a lawyer.A CS can be authorized by various companies to present them in courts through documents where as a lawyer can not be authorized to sign a balance sheet.Appointment of a CS is manadatory for Companies having requisite paid up capital where as same is not the case for lawyers.A CS can handle the legal department of a Company whereas a Lawyer can not due to the complications of Companies Act for having a CS for specific tasks.A Lawyer can fight for his clients in court cases whereas a CS can not.
