Computer Vison:

Computer vision is an interdisciplinary field that focuses on how computers can be built to gain a high level of understanding from digital images or video. From the perspective of engineering, it seeks to automate the tasks that the human visual system can perform.

Computer vision tasks include methods for acquiring, processing, analyzing, and understanding digital images, and extracting numerical or symbolic information, for example, in the form of decisions, high dimensional data extraction from the real world.

Understanding in this context means that visual images the input of the retina alter the details of the world that can interface with other thought processes and carry out appropriate actions.
