Difference between concave and convex lens without touching

Not sure what you mean by 'without touching' but a concave lens has the edges of the glass curving into the centre therefore the focal range is longer, making distant objects clearer. These types of lens are for short-sighted people who can't see far away objects clearly.
On the other hand, a convex lens which bulges outward is used for those who are long-sighted and can't see close objects clearly. Convex lens have an oval shape with the focal range being shorter therefore the direction of the rays of light are closer. Hope this helps!

We can differentiate between a convex and concave lens by seeing the image.

  • On keeping the lens near a printed page, if letters appear magnified, the lens is convex and if the letters appear diminished, the lens is concave.
  • On seeing a distant object through the lens, if its inverted image is seen, the lens is convex and if an upright image is seen, the lens is concave.
