In transformation, the recipient bacterium takes up extracellular donor DNA. In transduction, donor DNA packaged in a bacteriophage infects the recipient bacterium. In conjugation, the donor bacterium transfers DNA to the recipient by mating.

Conjugation

  • conjugation is the process of tranfer of DNA from the donor bacterium to the recipient bacterium
  • It involves two bacteria , one is donor and other is the recipient
  • This process involves physical contact between two the bacterium . Two bacteria are joined together by a conjugation
  • The conjugation process is resident to DNase as the DNA is present inside the bacteria

Transformation

  • Transformation is the uptake of DNA from their surroundings
  • It involves only one bacterium
  • There is no physical contact between the two bacteria
  • The transfer of DNA by transformation is sensitive to the Dnase

Transduction

  • Tranduction is the process of transfer of DNA from the donor bacterium to the recipient bacterium by using a virus as a vector
  • It involves two bacteria one is donor and other is the recipient
  • The process involves two bacteria but there is no physical contact between them
  • Tranduction is also DNase resistant . There is no naked DNA present
