Though there doesn't seem to be much difference in both as we use them as Combined term, There exists lots of variations among them. Many schools have already trying to implement a continuous and comprehensive evaluation for their students. It should be noted that, Both of them do have their own essence and implementing both of them will seem beneficial for the children who are going to be Future citizens.
Continuous evaluation :
As the name suggests, The evaluation must be done continuously and to elaborate more, The number of evaluations done on the student to analyze their understanding of the topic should be continuous.
The Old form of Studies and Examinations, prescribe only three main exams each year for the students namely, Quarterly, Half yearly and Annually . This might seem proper because The students would be able to complete reading the syllabus twice in a year before attempting the Final exams.
But the main disadvantage is, Children feel it difficult to write a greater portion of the syllabus all at a time, They end up cramming the topics without understanding them and finally, Once their exams are over. They will have less or no idea about the Syllabus.
In lower standards, It might not matter much. But once, Students reach 10th or may be, Higher education, They feel they can't get on with the competition.
Thus, Evaluating them at regular intervals and guiding them to do more better helps them to be better at the studies. Continous evaluates help the children to get rid of Exam phobia. They can also improve and this type of evaluation helps the student to be in touch with the subject.
Indian boards suggest of 7 Main exams out of which 3 are like the old traditional exam and Four exams would be purely based on Their reflections, Group discussions, Ideas and Innovations and Their opinions. This promotes all round development of the student.
Comprehensive evaluation :
Gone are the days when you would simply learn some basics and still get good marks. These days, Children need to be thorough with their syllabus for exams.
In olden days, Exam pattern was consisting only some kind of Essay questions, Short and Very short answer questions. Not only the questions, But the type of questions were too direct that, A student who crammed the questions would also get good marks.
But as said earlier, Reading for the exams without understanding, will make them forget the concepts quickly and would have a negative impact on their studies in higher standards.
Hence, The type of questions must evaluate the critical level of student understanding. Under comprehensive evaluation, A student can get good marks only if he has been perfect with all the academic standards.
So, Comprehensive evaluation provides the teacher or guide a better view of the Child's academic progress and helps them to help the student to become better.
Under comprehensive evaluation, Marks are awarded to the students not on the length of their answers but on the Subjective reasoning given by them.
The academic standards that student must fulfill in order to achieve a good rank are Very previously set that They not only test the understanding of the student but promote their learning to more than just inside the classroom.

The above two different evaluation method prove to be beneficial for the students and Hence, Educational ministry and The boards are trying to best to implement new standards of evaluation and teaching for Students.
