Difference between cotton and synthetic, wool clothes

The main difference is in the amount of water and agitation.Cotton is tough, so a cotton wash cycle uses the minimum amount of water necessary to get a good clean, and uses a lot of agitation. This gets the maximum amount of cleaning, using the minimum amount of water and minimum amount of time. However the problem is that the constant agitation, results in the individual fibres of the cloth rucking up on each other. This causes the fabric to shrink.Synthetics use the permanent press cycle which is a milder version of the cotton cycle, often at a lower temperature. This protects fabrics which have been heat treated to retain a specific shape. This cycle has a high-speed agitate cycle and a low-speed spin/dry cycle, to prevent stretching synthetic fabrics
