CPIM usually stands for Communist Party of India (Marxist),
and CPI stands for Communist Party of India,

First CPI  was formed, This was formed by inspiration of Russian movements, soon after that many conflicts arose between CPI members, Then there was a huge fights with words, not weapons or anything,

Due to this, they decided to create another party, So After the Independence, Some people of CPI came out of the party and established new party named as CPIM (M for Marxist),

Those conflicts were related to it, so they named the party after it,

If you observe carefully, The flags of both the party's are same, but name is different, Just names are changed on the logo,

This is the difference between CPI and CPIM,

Hope you understand, Have a great day !

As relations between the Nehru government and the Soviet Union improved, a faction that sought cooperation with the dominant Indian National Congress emerged within CPI.
