Protoplasm is the content of the cell including the cell membrane, cytoplasm and the cell nucleus whereas cytoplasm is the jelly like substance surrounding the nucleus within the cell membrane. The cytoplasm contains the cell organelles like mitochondria, ribosomes etc.

Protoplasm is the living component of the cell containing cytoplasm and the nucleus in a living cell. The chemical composition of protoplasm varies from one cell to other.

The common elements found in protoplasm are carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen,iron,etc. which constitutes carbohydrate, protein,fats, minerals and water.
