The “bright half” has the sun shining on it, the “dark half” does not. The Moon rotates around its axis in a little over 28 days so the “bright” and “dark” sections are constantly changing. Any given spot on the surface of the Moon will therefore experience 14 days of daylight followed by 14 days of night
