Difference between decay and damage in buildings, are as follows -

• The decay is a slow but constant process which reduces the strength of the both external and internal structures of the building. The decaying process ultimately leads towards permanent damage. So,decay is the reason behind the damage.

On the other hand,

• When a major amount of strength of the structure of the building is reduced due to the decaying process for long period of time, the damages come up as the final result. So,damages are the results of the decaying process. These damages can cause serious problems in no time, unlike the decay which takes longer time to cause problems.
