Democracy is a form of government by the people, of the people and for the people. Here, leaders or politicians get elected by the people and then if they win, they are allowed to govern the people and manage the country or state for its benefit.
Dictatorship on the other hand is a term used for people who come to power by force, whether its military power or muscle power. Some of its examples are Adolf Hitler, Nepolean Bonaparte etc.
