Abstract— Two popular representation learning paradigms are dictionary learning and deep learning. While dictionary learning focuses on learning “basis'' and “features'' by matrix factorization, deep learning focuses on extracting features via learning “weights'' or “filter'' in a greedy layer by layer fashion.
