Diplopia, commonly known asdouble vision, is the simultaneousperceptionof two images of a single object that may be displaced horizontally, vertically, diagonally (i.e., both vertically and horizontally), or rotationally in relation to each other. It is usually the result of impaired function of theextraocular muscles, where both eyes are still functional but they cannot turn to target the desired object.Problems with EOMs may be due to mechanical problems, disorders of theneuromuscular junction, disorders of thecranial nerves(III,IV, andVI) that stimulate the muscles, and occasionally disorders involving the supranuclear oculomotor pathways or ingestion oftoxins.Diplopia can be one of the first signs of asystemic disease, particularly to a muscular or neurological process, and it may disrupt a person’s balance, movement, and/or reading abilities.

Biopia
The power of accomodation of the eyes decreases with ageing. most of the people find that naer pointgradually recedes. this defect is called persbiopia.it arises due to the weakening of the ciliary musclesand diminishing flexibility of the eye lens. such a person may suffer from bth myopia and hypermeteropia. this defect can be corrected by using bi-focal lenses with suitable focal lengths. the upper part of the lens is concave lens which corrects myopia to see the distant objects clearly, while the lower part of the lens has convex lens which corrects hypermeteropia to see the nearby objects clearly.
