Distance is defined as the actual distance covered by the body. It is a scalar quantity.

Displacement is defined as the shortest distance between the initial and the final positions.It is a vector quantity.

distance is the length of the actual path between two locations, displacement, on the other hand, is the length of the shortest path between two locations.
