DOS’, windows and UNIX:

MS-DOS was a sole-task operating system while UNIX was a multiple-task operating system.

• The original UNIX was fundamentally different from today’s modern operating systems such as Linux, Windows, Mac OS, and Android which are currently operating systems. The original UNIX was deliberate to accommodate multiple users using the same application running on diverse terminals on a single mini-computer.  

• A window is a distinct viewing area on a computer display screen in a system that permits multiple viewing areas as part of a graphical user interface ( GUI ).
