Dressing sharpens the wheel by removing bond material and fracturing the superabrasive grit to expose fresh edges, so dressing always followstruing. A superabrasive grinding wheelis largely self-sharpening, although the workpiece material can cause it to dull or load-up

Truing generates a flat surface on the wheel boundary, and with no revealed lumps and due to this the wheel won't cut. Dressing intensifies the wheel by lifting debenture material and cracking the superabrasive lumps to exhibit fresh points, so dressing perpetually follows truing.
