DRY PORT

1. These are generally built where a sea port cannot be constructed as the location is far from the coastline. They carry both cargo and passengers

2. These are generally built on smaller water bodies like lakes or small rivers.

3. These are also called an inland ports

4. They function relatively smoothly

5. The biggest inland port in the world is in Montreal.  Haldia port in West Bengal is an example in India.

SEA PORT

1. Most common type of ports used for commercial shipping purposes

2. These are built on a sea location or on the coast line that enables small and large vehicles and handle cargo transactions.  

3. These are further divided into cruise ports or cargo ports  

4. They are generally clogged due to excess sea traffic that is continuous

5. Kandla port in Gujarat and Marmagao port in Goa are examples.
