Dura mater is the outermost meninx. It is the thick and strong covering made up of dense connective tissue. Arachnoid mater is the middle thin meninx composed of loosely arranged protein fibers. Pia mater is the innermost meninx that is attached to the surface of the brain and spinal cord.
