lichens are symbiotic associations i.e. mutually useful associations, between algae and fungi. The algal component is called as phycobiont and the fungal component is called mycobiont.

Earthworms belongs to the kingdom animalia where as the fungi belongs to fungi kingdom and algae belongs to bryophyta(plantae) the association is not fit in the classification of whittakar
