The difference is “sustainable”. That means that whatever you use for development can be sustained for a long time with little or no degradation to the environment.

For example, you can make things with plastic, which is derived from oil, which has a finite supply.

Or you can make most of the same things from cellulose based materials, which are derived from trees or plants, that can be replanted for a sustainable supply.
