Gamete refers to a haploid sex cell that is a sperm in males andegg (oocyte) in females. Zygoteis the diploid cell that results from the fertilization between an eggand a sperm. In mammals, the sperm (male gamete) fertilizes the egg (ovum, the female gamete) and the fertilized egg is called a zygote.

- The size of the egg is very large.
- It is a non-motile gamete.
- It has haploid number of chromosome.
Zygote:
- It is produced by the fusion of male gamete and female gamete which is called as fertilization.
- It has diploid number of chromosomes.
- It is also called as fertilized ovum.
- It undergoes further division and forms embryo.
