Electrolyte is a compound in aqueous solution or in fused state splits in to ions on passing electricity.

Examples :

Strong electrolyte :

NaCl(aq), NaCl(fused),CH3COONa (aq)

Weak electrolyte :

NH4OH (aq), CH3COOH(aq)

Electrolysis :

The process in which on passing electricity through an electrolyte causes ionization of electrolyte and movement of the cations towards cathode and anions towards anode.
