Difference between electrolytic reduction and reduction by carbon.

Electrolytic reducation is used for metals with higher reactivity. Carbon reduction is used for metals in middle of reactivity series.
Since highly reactive metals cannot be reduced using carbon this method is used whereas the middle reactive metals can be easily reduced down using carbon.
