In elimination reactions, components are just kicked out of the molecule using reagents.
In substitution reactions, the reagent and reactant exchange their ions.
Dehydration using Sulfuric Acid is elimination whereas using NaOh on a HaloAlkane to convert it to alcohol is Substitution reaction.
