AN EPIDEMIC is a disease that affects a large number of people within a community, population, or region. A PANDEMIC is an epidemicthat's spread over multiple countries or continents. ENDEMIC is something that belongs to a particular people or country.

In contrast, an epidemic is an outbreak that spreads at an alarming rate and affects many people at once, and can spread through different communities. The Greek meaning of this word is epi meaning upon/above and demos meaning people. Epidemic may not necessarily relate to an infectious disease, it can also relate to a certain health risk becoming popular among people.
Ex - Rise in obesity globally, which is also known as the "Obesity epidemic".
