The Rough Endoplamic Reticulum (RER) has ribosomes on its surface, that's why the surface of RER appears rough. RER looks like a sheet. The RER synsthesis and packes proteins. The RER is attached to membrane.
The Smooth Endoplamic Reticulum (SER) does not contain ribosomes. SER is more like a tube. The SER helps in the storage of proteins and lipids. Cells that produces oil have higher ratio of SERs than other cells. The SER can be found depresed throughout the cytoplasm of the cell.
