Hi,

Contamination:
It is the presence of a foreign material in any other material. But it doesn't do harm.
Example: A cup of water contains few drops of grape juice. we might say the water is not pure.

Remember a pure substance means, which is 100% of its own composition and structure.

Generally, a contaminant is an undesired material although it does not have to be harm.

Pollution:
It is the presence of any substance or material that may cause a harmful effect on human, animal and plant. If their is no harm, then it is called contaminant.

Example: A cup of water contains few drops of poison or chemicals. we might say the water is not pure.

Regardless to all the above, many communities and even scientific journals consider both pollutant and contaminant as tow words with same meaning.
