Esterification is when you produce an ester from a Carboxylic acid and an Alcohol group by heating in presence of acid catalyst whereas, saponification is the conversion of an ester into a Carboxylic acid and an Alcohol group.

So they are basically the opposite of each other

Examples-

Esterification - ethanoic acid and propanol reacts to form propyl-ethanoate and water.

CH3COOH +  CH₃CH₂CH₂OH ===> C5H10O2 + H2O (UNBALANCED)

Saponification - Glyceryl tristearin is added to sodium hydroxide to give Glycerol and Sodium Stearate, a soap

C57H110O6 + 3 NaOH ===> C3H8O3 + C18H35NaO2
