2. Esterification is the production of ester from carboxylic acid and alcohol whereas saponification is the cleavage of an ester back into carboxylic acid and alcohol.

3. End process of esterification is water and ester but in saponification carboxylic ion and alcohol.

4. Esterification requires heat but saponification don't require heat.

5. In esterification catalyst is an acid whereas in saponification catalyst is base.
