ethanol is an alcohol which has functional group -OH. Wheras ethanoic acid is an acid which has functional group carboxylic acid (COOH).

_Ethanol has sweet odour while ethanoic acid has pungent odour.
Ethanol does not react with sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO₃) but ethanoic acid reacts with sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO₃) releasing CO2 gas.
Ethanol does not change the colour of blue litmus paper while ethanoic acid change the colour of blue litmus to red.
