Difference between false consciousness and hegemony

Marx never used the term “false consciousness” so it is difficult to compare exactly. Marx did talk about “base/superstructure” and the power of ideology. Essentially, Marx believed that the ruling ideas of any epoch were the ideas of the ruling class. These dominant ideas naturalized the existing social relations. Although the dominant ideas of a particular epoch were dominant, they aren’t the only ideas.
