Difference between focus and epicentre (4points)

Epicenter - the point on the earth surface located directly above the focus of an earthquake.
Focus - The location where earthquake begins.
The ground ruptures at the spot, then seismic waves radiate in all directions.

The differences between  focus and epicenter are-

  1. focus is the place situated on the earth crust where earthquake originates whereas epicenter is the place of origin of earthquake situated on the earth surface directly above the focus.
  2. the waves that originate from the epicenter is body waves whereas the one originated from focus are body as well as surface waves.
  3. epicenter is the place on earth where maximum damage is caused whereas focus is the point where explosion originates
  4. epicenter measures the two dimensional effect of spreading of waves while focus measures three dimensional effect of spreading of waves.
