1. Being a carboxylic acid, formic acid liberates CO2 gas on treatment with NaHCO3. Formaldehyde does not react with this salt.
2. On heating with conc.H2SO4, formic acid is dehydrated to carbon monoxide, which burns with a blue flame. The aldehyde does not does gives CO with conc.H2SO4.
