Formaldehyde, also known as methanol, is a colourless and flammable gas that has a pungent smell and is soluble in water. I always thought that formaldehyde was a liquid, but its basic form is actually a gas. The chemical formula of formaldehyde is CH2O, it has one carbon atom, two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. Its chemical formula can also be written as HCHO

Formic acid is a chemical that is both naturally occurring and frequently synthesised in laboratories. In nature, it is most commonly found in the bites and stings of insects, it is also one of the most common industrial uses of formic acid is in the production of leather. Because it is so acidic, formic acid has proven itself to be perfect for use in this fashion.

hope this has helped :)

Formalin is also called formaldehyde. It's IUPAC name is Methanal and It has a formula HCHO. It is used as a disinfectant and is used to preserve dead bodies or or dead specimens. It belongs to the aldehyde group due to the presence of CHO. It is also used in various industrial purposes

Formic acid is also called methanoic acid. It has a formula of HCOOH. When an ant bites you, you may have felt the itching on the bitten area, this is due to the formic acid. It is the simplest form of carboxylic acid
