Fossil fuels have always been a main source of energy throughout the years. But since they can't be replenished and can do the environment harm, renewable sources of energy are slowly taking their place. Renewable energy is paving the way for an environmentally safer means of producing power and electricity

The following are the differences between fossil fuels and alternative energy sources.

  • Fossil fuels are fuels derived from decomposing plants and animals. In effect these are fuels that are made from the fossils of dead plants and animals, hence the name.
  • Alternative energy sources are energy sources other than fossil fuels.
  • Fossil fuels are often very polluting to the environment due to the release of carbon dioxide, thus being harmful to the environment.
  • Alternative energy sources are often more environmentally friendly than their fossil fuel counterparts. These are cleaner forms of energy.
  • Fossil fuels are the primary source of energy generation in the contemporary world.
  • Alternative energy is still a growing industry and has been touted as the energy for the future. It currently is not a significant source of energy generation in relation to fossil fuels.
  • Examples of fossil fuels include Coal, Petroleum, and Natural gas.
  • Examples of alternative sources of energy include Solar energy, Wind energy, Wave power, etc.
