The major significant difference between ammeter and galvanometer is that ammeter shows only the magnitude of the current. Whereas, the galvanometer shows both the direction and magnitude of the current.

For electrical instruments, measurements of parameters like current flow are very important. This current measurement is possible through an ammeter and also through a galvanometer. But these two are having many dissimilarities. The main difference between these two is that the galvanometer shows both the direction and the magnitude of the current. But, the ammeter only shows the magnitude of the current.
