- General Elections are functioning to elect a natural government whereas by - elections are functioning to elect a single MP.
- General Elections are held are held in all constituencies at the same time or day or either within a few days and By - Election are held only for one constituency to fill the vaccancy caused by the death or resignation of the member.
- General Elections are held regularly after 5 years and by- elections are held before the expiry of 6 years from the date the seat falls vaccant.
