Hey.

Here is the answer.

the general purpose software is a packaged software wherein any one can buy. Let us say, accounting software or Marketing automation software.

Whereas, special purpose software is built for unique business needs. This will help you achieve your business objectives, since software is tailor-made exclusively for your business.

General purpose software is that which is the same whenever it is sold. E.g. Windows, Final Cut Pro, Oracle Database.

Special purpose software is that which is unique whenever it is sold.

Benefits of Special Purpose Software.

1. Tailor-made exclusively for your business.

2. Highly scale-able & secured.

3. Cost-effective.

4. Automate manual operations with easy enterprise software integration.

5. Helps you realize highest business efficiency, reduced costs & increased profits.

Thanks.

not enough context in the question to know precisely what you are asking.

Thirty years ago, firms would buy general purpose software and then customize it. this is very common for traditional IBM iron. You would buy a package running on some IBM midrange (S-34,36,38, AS-400) and then customize the software as needed. Updates were a bear.

Perhaps that’s not what you were asking about. Consider a piece of software like MSFT Excel. It’s a general purpose calculator.

QuickBooks is a customized software App for Accounting, it’s a customized calculator built specifically for Accounting.

hope it helps you
