Gene is a stretch of a DNA that determines a particular trait.Genes can mutate and take two or more alternative forms, now these are called alleles of a particular gene.
Now alleleoccurs in a fixed spot in a chromosome and in humans we have two sets of chromosomes.

cithira: gene is a segment of DNA which contains information for the transfer of characters whereas alleles are the alternative forms of a gene occupying the same gene loci of the homologous chromosome

Section of DNA that governs a trait is gene. Gene mutates and take its alternative forms called alleles. Usually in gametes only one form of gene (allele) comes. At a locus of homologous Chromosome only two alleles are present and during spermatogenesis and oogenesis only one allele comes to sperm or ova.
Exa

Kuldeepnehra: Genes controlling coat color of rabbit have more than two alternatives forms .The allele for normal color, allele for Himalayan color, allele for chinchilla and allele for albino.. But at a time only two alleles can be present
