Geocentric model considers Earth to be the center of the solar system, while Heliocentric model considers the Sun to be the center of the solar system.

Explanation:

  • The early Greek scholars and astronomers believed that the earth is the center of the solar system, and all the planets like Mars, Venus and the moon revolve around the earth which is termed as the geocentric model of the solar system.
  • Since European scholars depended on early Greeks for such knowledge, they also believed the geocentric model.
  • They also believed that the planets revolved around the earth in circular paths.
  • But around 14th and 15th century people began to notice irregularities in some astronomical phenomena like eclipses, etc.
  • And around this time in the 16th century Nicholas Copernicus came up with the Heliocentric model of the solar system in which the sun is present in the centre and all the planets revolved around in elliptical orbits.
  • This notion was also confirmed by Kepler's Law of Planetary Movements, and others.
