In thermal power plants, heat energy produced by burning of fossil fuel, such as coal, to electrical energy but in geothermal power plants heat energy of the interior of the earth surface is harnessed to produce electrical energy.
Thermal energy is a conventional source of energy but geothermal energy is a non-conventional source of energy.
